Six Things You Should Do To Recognize Your Full Potential
While there are many things you can do to recognize your full potential, we’ve captured six of those in this blog.
- Once you’ve decided on your #goals, WRITE THEM DOWN. There is something magical about putting your goals in writing and not just “keeping them in your head.” Once a goal is written, it is as if you have “made a promise” to yourself. Goals help to keep you focused and moving forward on your journey to reaching your full potential.
- Have you ever seen in a cartoon how the farmer holds the apple just out of reach of the horse, so the horse will keep moving forward? This is important to consider when you are on your journey to your best self. You should always be working to achieve the next step. For example, if you wanted to be a pole vaulter, and your current reality is that you can value 12 feet, the next step would be 12 feet and 6 inches rather than 17 feet, even though that is you ultimate goal. The saying by John Bytheway, “Inch by inch life’s a cinch; yard by yard, life is hard”, rings true as we work our way toward accomplishing our goals.
- The Nike slogan, “Just Do It!” is appropriate to reaching your full potential. It’s great to plan and write down your goals, but if you don’t #act, then you will never reach your goals. Remember the word “fail” really means, “First Attempt In Learning”. If you don’t get started you can never get to the end of your journey. Get moving!
- Enjoy a #recharge moment. Even batteries need to be recharged once in a while. Your mind and your body need a break. Practice mediation, yoga, going for a walk, enjoying your favorite activity to relieve the stress and tension. You’ll be pleasantly surprised by how much better you feel.
- Simplify your life. Consider your habits, rituals and routines. Ask yourself if you are doing them because they still make sense or because you are stuck in the #tradition of what you are doing. See to it that your “do” makes sense. Also see to it that you don’t get bogged down in complexity. Keep it simple.
- One of the habits of mind is identified as “persistence”. If everything were easy for us, we wouldn’t find much value in it. We have learned to value what is stretching us to be more than we currently are. #Persistence allows you to continue, even in tough times and when you’re tired. Persistence allows you to be like Thomas Edison who responded when asked about his over 10,000 lightbulb making failures. He said, “I don’t consider these a mistake, I just learned 10,000 ways NOT to build the lightbulb.
Remember always, URxlent. UR Unique. There is no one else in the world exactly like you. Becoming the best version of yourself is your contribution to the world.
