Becoming Your Best Self
As we work to become the best version of our authentic self, there are some #skills we need to develop. We need to be aware of who we are, what our purpose is, how to offer #leadership, how to be #mindful, how to achieve #results, and how to practice excellence.
- Self-Awareness: Who are you? Who are you really? How do you show up with friends, family, and work colleagues? How do others influence you and how do you influence others? What is your interaction style? How do you respond to expectations? All of these are questions you will want to answer so you can become “self-aware.” Others may encourage you to change who you are, but you need to decide what you would like to learn and grow on your own. You need to be aware of who you are, including your #skills, #interests, and #talents.
- Mindfulness: Being #mindful is about being intentional. Different people have defined this in different ways. Angeles Arrien says, “Show up and choose to be present”; Stephen Covey says to “find your voice and help others to find their voices”; Chopra says, “”Every time you are tempted to react in the same old way, ask if you want to be a prisoner of the past or a pioneer of the future.” We think all of these statements are about mindfulness, knowing what’s going on inside of you and in the world around you. Mindfulness, in the form of meditation has become increasing popular. It speaks to the opportunity you have to slow down, take a breath, become intentional, and realize you are a human being rather than a human doing.
- Communication: #Communication is an essential aspect of becoming the best version of yourself. It is important to remember that communication is a two-way street and requires both thoughtful expression and compassionate listening. While interactive communication allows you to check for understanding in the moment, much of our communication is written. It is important we learn to write as effectively as we speak. We’ve never heard anyone complain about over communication. We believe in sharing information and insight with people and then allowing them to decide whether or not it is valid to them.
- Striving for #Accuracy and #Excellence: Being as accurate as possible is important, but so too is being able to state, “I really don’t know, let’s see if we can come to a solution together.” Accuracy means to take ownership of your work product and be sure it reflects your best efforts. Excellence is achieved when the quality of your actions are intentional and the work product you produce is accurate over time. Excellence is not a “one-time” event. It become the “rule” over time.
- Leadership: When you’re getting the instructions on an airplane before you take off, the flight attendant says, “Should we lose cabin pressure, put the oxygen mask on yourself first before helping others.” This is true with #leadership as well. Learn how to troubleshoot your own challenges. Value helping others by empowering them not by teaching them “learned helplessness”. The biggest compliment for a leader is when someone says, “I don’t need you to help me anymore with this particular thing.” Leaders set good examples by the way in which they behave. Those around them want to aspire to be more like the leader. Leaders understand the difference between motivation and manipulation, and put the best interest of the other front and center. Leaders try to create win-win solutions.
Becoming a #self-actualized person is easier said than done. We believe URxlent and can achieve this result.
